From small.town.fun.:
Modern parents everywhere have been intrigued by the "$100 Laptop." Its slick, kid-friendly design and low price make it something that many of us have wished we could get for our own kids. That wish will soon become reality when the organization behind the computer offers them up to US consumers.
There’s been a lot of talk about the “$100 Laptop,” and how its actual cost went up to something closer to $188 because of rising production costs. The price hike may have affected how governments perceive the program, because verbal handshakes from developing countries haven’t manifested themselves into actual computer purchases. The people behind One Laptop Per Child have come up with what they hope is another way to get computers into the hands of children across the world. They’re gearing up to start the “G1G1 Movement.”
Starting November 12th, US consumers will be able to shell out $399 and score a laptop for a child in a developing nation and at the same time, score one of their own. Details are on the One Laptop Per Child website and you can even sign up for a reminder - the computers will be available for a limited time only, so getting in early is key.
Check out the site and then get your friends, Meet Up groups or service group on the bandwagon.
